How to encourage your children to eat healthily

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

Here at Jumping Stars, we might only look after your children for a short while, but we know that being a parent is never easy and there are plenty of things that you need to keep in mind and think about when it comes to caring for your kids.

One big headache causer for many parents is getting your child to eat the right things so here is a book that I suggest you read is How to Get Your Kids to Eat....

It is no secret that children (and many adults for that matter) would prefer to only eat tasty treats and leave the vegetables for another time. But, the truth is, this just isn’t going to keep you very healthy. Try to roll play with your child using different vegetable toys and teach him about different vegetable and the benefits of it.

So, what can you do about it? How do you encourage a child who is pretty insistent on eating the wrong things how to eat the right things?

Now, we know that this might be easier said than done. But, one thing that you can do for your children is to encourage them to try out as many foods as possible.

This does require some planning, and will maybe mean a bit of food waste as they get to grips with flavours that they do or don’t like. But, it is important to remind yourself that the more you offer them, then the more chance that you will have to find something that they like. If you just become a parent and looking to educate yourself on what skills a parents should have this book might help When Partners Become Parents by Carolyn Pape Cowan & Philip A. Cowan

Eat with them and cook with them

Children, especially younger ones, will learn from the examples set by their parents and this includes eating habits

by taking them grocery shopping or make the online order together, another healthy habit that can be developed is to cook home made meals, please check out Joe Wicks 15 Minutes Meals.and try to avoid cooking separately for the younger children. If you find that your child is struggling to eat some of the healthier food options that are offered to them, then now might be a good time to sit down with them and eat. Show them that there are some delicious yet nutritious foods out there and encourage them to try their own servings too. Here you can find Annabel Karmel's Book for Fussy Eaters.

Don’t ban snacks

One final tip is that you should never ever make a point of banning the snacks and treats that your child does love to eat. It is a much better idea to ensure that they recognise that these are treats that are to be enjoyed as and when you, as an adult, decides. When they learn that these foods are something to be enjoyed, rather than just something you have out of routine (or boredom) then the more chance that they will moderate eating them for themselves. Try to provide healthy snacks for all the family.

Here are some book that I recommend you to read with your children:

Everyone needs a break from their kids from time to time, even if it is just to ease the stresses and strains of being in charge of them 24/7. So, if you are organising an event, be it a personal one such as a wedding or something more formal or corporate; then why not consider a mobile creche service? Our service is designed to allow the kids to have the best time whilst the adults to relax and unwind. All whilst safe in the knowledge that the broccoli battle is not one to be fought today.
