Activities suitable for 1-year-olds

Often we hear parents discussing that they need ideas how to keep their one years old babies occupied and busy during the day.

Here are some activities that are suitable for 1-year-olds:

Sensory play: Sensory play activities can be great for 1-year-olds. You can set up a sensory bin with materials such as rice, pasta, or beans for them to explore. You can also add in different textures such as soft fabrics, squishy balls, or rough sandpaper.

Stacking blocks: Stacking blocks can help with developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. You can encourage your child to stack and knock down the blocks, or sort them by color or size.

Peek-a-boo: This classic game is perfect for 1-year-olds. Simply cover your face with your hands or a blanket and then uncover it while saying "peek-a-boo!"

Singing songs: Singing songs with your child can be fun and engaging. Choose simple nursery rhymes or children's songs with actions, such as "The Wheels on the Bus" or "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes."

Playing with bubbles: Blowing bubbles can be a fun and sensory activity for 1-year-olds. You can use a bubble wand or a bubble machine to create a magical and interactive experience.

Musical instruments: Giving your child some simple musical instruments such as shakers or drums can be fun for them to explore and create their own sounds.

Dancing and moving: Encouraging your child to move and dance to music can be a fun and energetic activity. You can use simple props such as scarves or ribbons to make it more interactive.

Reading books: Reading books with your child can help to develop their language and communication skills. You can choose books with simple, colorful illustrations and easy-to-understand text.

Play with balls: Rolling a ball back and forth or playing catch with a soft ball can be a fun and engaging activity for 1-year-olds.

Finger painting: Finger painting can be a great way for your child to explore different textures and colors. You can use non-toxic paint and large sheets of paper for them to create their own masterpieces.

Remember, games for 1-year-olds should be simple, safe, and age-appropriate. Always supervise your child during playtime and choose games that are suitable for their developmental stage.

One of the most important area of development for one years old children in our opinion is the Physical Development.

Physical development games are essential for 1-year-olds as they help improve their gross motor skills and coordination. Here are some physical development games for 1-year-olds:

Crawling races: Create a simple obstacle course using pillows, cushions, or tunnels and encourage your child to crawl through it. You can make it a race between you and your child to make it more exciting.

Balloon volleyball: Blow up a balloon and encourage your child to hit it back and forth with you. This game helps improve hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.

Chasing bubbles: Blow bubbles and encourage your child to chase and pop them. This game helps improve gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Animal walks: Encourage your child to imitate different animal movements such as crawling like a bear, walking like a duck, or jumping like a frog. This game helps improve balance, coordination, and gross motor skills.

Simple yoga poses: Encourage your child to try simple yoga poses such as downward dog or child's pose. This helps improve balance, coordination, and flexibility.

Physical development games should be safe, fun, and age-appropriate.
